Volunteer with us

Share your time and skills to support carers across Gloucestershire. We have a wide range of opportunities and currently have more than 50 volunteers who are valued members of our team.  Get out there, meet some lovely people, and have fun!

I really would like to find a way of helping others who may have similar problems.

What do we offer?

We have a dedicated volunteer co-ordinator who supports our growing group of volunteers.

We offer training and support, for example in First Aid skills or administration-based tasks.

Our volunteers are a friendly bunch and we organise lunches and other social events on a regular basis.

If you would like to find out more, the please give us a call on 0300 111 9000 or download and fill in the application form and send to mail@carersgloucestershire.org.uk.

Alternatively, please print a copy and post to Carers Gloucestershire, Messenger House, 35 St Michael's Square, Gloucester, GL1 1HX and we will arrange to meet with you.

Carer to Carer

Can you spare an hour a week to talk with a carer?

You might be a carer or former carer or have just the right skills to offer that listening ear to someone who may need to talk one-to-one.

You could support someone who may feel lonely or isolated or someone who might want to talk through how their caring situation affects them.

Once matched, you can decide if you prefer phone or email support or are able to meet someone face to face.  All we ask is that you commit to the match for approximately three months with flexibility for any holidays or breaks away you might have.

We offer training, expenses, supervision and support with this role and you will be DBS checked.

Feedback from Carer to Carer volunteers

"Having felt very isolated and vulnerable whilst caring, I feel I can understand the feelings and actions of other carers and knowing just to be able to ‘offload’ feelings/issues is often very beneficial."

"I value the support I’ve had over the years and now I’ve got time I’d like to do the same for others."

GP Surgery Link

Could you help us to keep local GP surgeries up to date with information for carers?

We need more volunteers throughout the county to link with GP Surgeries. You would be visiting one or more GP Surgeries every 6-8 weeks, keeping them supplied with leaflets and other information. These volunteers work in the heart of their local communities and provide a valuable link.

This is a flexible role which can fit around other commitments. We offer training, support and expenses.

GP surgeries are important ways of reaching out to many carers, so being a surgery link visitor is a great and straightforward way of supporting this activity.

Andrew

Hospital Ambassador

We are looking for volunteers to staff our information stands in Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General hospitals.

You would be supplying information to staff and patients about Carers Gloucestershire’s services and making referrals to our Carer Advisers.  We offer training, support and expenses.

Become an ambassador

Community Ambassadors play a key role in helping to share the mission and values of Carers Gloucestershire in their local community.

As a Community Ambassador, you will deliver talks about the services Carers Gloucestershire offers and how to access these services. You will need to be a good listener and keen to engage your local community; in understanding what their needs are and how we can meet these needs.

Community Ambassadors need to be creative in engaging and motivating people. You need to be able to work to on your own initiative and have good organisational skills. You also need to understand the need for confidentiality when dealing with carers and the person they care for.

If you think this role is a match to your skills, please see more in the job role description and contact us to have a conversation on how you could be part of the team.

Community Ambassador job description

I am pleased to have become a Carers Gloucestershire Ambassador. Through my own experiences I can point carers in the right direction for any help they require. Being able to access Carers Gloucestershire services empowered me to cope with the situation I found myself in.
