One in Ten Carers Festival 2008
one in ten was the big event for Carers Week 2009, with all the ingredients for a good festival; music, dancing, the smell of hot dogs and onions, entertainment for the kids, sunshine and a real sense of coming together to recognise how Carers make a difference.
Carers Festival 2007
Saturday June 16th, Highnam Community Centre.
The day had been promoted as a day of free events and activities for all
the family, helping Carers to access help, information support and training and included a Carers Information Market Place, Cookery Demonstrations, Arts & Crafts Workshops, Children’s Entertainments such as face painting and a bouncy castle, Alternative Therapy Treatments, live music & Morris Dancing – much more!
My Life: A Carer fine art photography exhibition
This new body of work took the form of a series of ‘visual metaphors’, graphically providing an opportunity to explore the key issues raised by Carers and presented them in an innovative way that would provoke discussion with other Carers, service providers and the wider public. It also put a spotlight on one of those key issues in itself; that of recognition for Carers.
The exhibition had its first run at the Oxstalls Campus of the University of Gloucestershire in June 2007 and then re-hung there later in the year for an extended period, linked to Health & Social Care courses, giving an introduction to Carers’ issues.
my life: a carer is booked into the Fosters Gallery at Gloucester Royal Hospital in July 2008 and Carers Gloucestershire is looking to explore other potential venues.

‘You Choose?' - Carers Gloucestershire's Big Day Out!
Around a hundred Carers and staff attended Carers Gloucestershire's Annual Review and AGM on December 3rd at Gloucester Rugby Club. There was a mix of presentations, workshops, music and information stalls, set in a café lounge environment, giving the day a less formal tone and encouraging the attendees to take up the theme of choice and participate in the various elements of the day as they wished.

Are you taking care of a partner, family member or friend who has a serious, palliative illness?
Written by: The Carers Support Group, Sue Ryder Care - Leckhampton Court Hospice
"This is not a list of solutions, but just a few ideas from our own experience as Carers, of how we manage to cope with the challenging emotional effects of caring for someone close to us with a palliative illness. Everybody is different and we encourage you to choose the help and support that is right for you."
Download NowCarers questions for Wards
As a result of talking to carers and staff a question sheet has been introduced to help reduce the stress of asking questions to the wrong member of staff or finding the staff are not available at the same time as the carers. This often happens when the carer can only visit in the evening due to work or other commitments.
The carer can write the questions they want answered on the sheet which can be left in the patient file for the appropriate member of staff to answer such as the Consultant, physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
