Cheltenham's Royal Crescent Surgery showed its support for
Carers in the sweetest way possible recently.
The surgery raised £135.08 for Carers Gloucestershire by holding
a cake sale during their flu clinic.
Members of the Royal Crescent staff baked cakes or made
donations and by the end of the morning, the entire array of cakes had been
snapped up by patients.
Annie Epps, a member of the ‘Carers Gloucestershire’ Surgery
Link team, was on hand at the "Cakes for Carers" morning with
information leaflets to give out to those who weren't already aware of the
charity's work and chatted to interested patients.
Royal Crescent Surgery Carers Co-ordinator Mand Brooks said "There was a happy atmosphere and a
very good response from our patients both to the advice offered and to the
cakes on display.
"A lot of people
don't think of themselves as Carers but you don't have to be employed as a
Carer to count. Those people who call in regularly on elderly neighbours and
make sure they're all right are also Carers."
"It helps if
people tell us at the surgery that they are Carers. We can give them a referral
form to be involved with Carers Gloucestershire so they can take advantage of
the advice available and receive the monthly magazine. "
Practice Manager Mrs Mandy Lewis said "At Royal Crescent we appreciate the difficulties Carers
experience and we were delighted to be able to do this to show our practical
support."
