Multicultural Services PDF Print E-mail

Carers Glos Carers from BME (Black & Other Minority Ethnic) communities cannot always get the help and support they need. This can be for many reasons, for example, English may not be the first language, or the service may not be culturally appropriate. We understand the difficulties that Carers from these communities may have.

We offer 1-1 support, but we also set up and run culturally specific Carer Support Groups. We currently support an Asian Women’s Group, a Bangladeshi Women’s Group, an African Caribbean Group, a Chinese Carers Group and an Asian Male Carers Group.

How can we help?

Advice -We can visit you in you own home to talk about your caring role, and how you are managing. We will discuss which services you may be entitled to, and how to access them.

Training – We consult with each Group and then put a programme together that meets their needs. Some of the courses Carers have requested include, First Aid, Confidence Building, Using the internet, ESOL (English for Speaker of Other Languages). All courses are set up to meet the needs of the group, e.g. interpretation and appropriate food can be provided.

Events- We organise many cultural events for Carers, often in partnership with other Organisations, e.g. Eid, Diwali, Chinese New Year

Trips- We regularly organise outings. Recent visits for Carers include trips to Kew Gardens, London, The Eden project and even a day trip to France!

Consultation- We facilitate events and information days, where Carers are invited to make suggestions as to how a service could be improved. We ensure that Service Providers are made aware of the Carers views.
