Carers Gloucestershire is a registered charity (no.1110529) and also a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales (no. 5475527).

The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustee Directors the Chair and Vice Chair of which are elected and appointed annually from the serving Directors. The Board will have a minimum of eight and maximum of twelve Directors.

To ensure that we are truly Carer led, under the Memorandum & Articles of Association of Carers Gloucestershire the Board shall be made up of at least four Carers or former Carers.

Our current Board of Directors is made up of:

Our Chief Executive, Tim Poole, is also our Company Secretary.

Role of a Trustee

The Charities Act 1993 defines charity trustees as “persons having the general control and management of the administration of a charity”

The Statutory duties of a trustee are to:

  • Ensure that Carers Gloucestershire complies with the governing document (Memorandum and Articles of Association in the case of a company limited by guarantee), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Ensure that Carers Gloucestershire pursues its charitable objectives as defined in the governing document.
  • Ensure that Carers Gloucestershire applies its resources exclusively in the furtherance of its objectives as stated in the governing document.
  • Attend trustees (management committee) meetings regularly and contribute actively to the board of trustees’ role giving clear strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and objectives, setting targets and evaluating performance against them.
  • At all times, safeguard the good name and values of Carers Gloucestershire.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient management of the organisation through the Chief Executive and nominated Trustees.
  • Ensure the financial stability of Carers Gloucestershire and the probity of all its financial dealings through the nominated Treasurer. Protecting and managing the property of the organisation and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds.
  • Appoint and support the Chief Executive and assist the Chairperson in the monitoring of his or her performance.

Daphne Poole

In recognition of her role in founding Carers Gloucestershire in 1992, and her continuing selfless commitment to Carers and Carers Gloucestershire in many guises over the years, including as Chair of the Board of Trustees, Daphne was appointed as President of Carers Gloucestershire in September 2002

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers

In 1996, Carers Gloucestershire was invited to join The Princess Royal Trust for Carers network in recognition of it’s services and support for carers.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is the largest provider of comprehensive carers support services in the UK. Through its unique network of 133 independently managed Carers' Centres , 83 young carers services and interactive websites, Carers.org and YC Net, The Trust currently provides quality information, advice and support services to almost 310,000 carers, including over 15,500 young carers.

In addition, The Trust also acts independently in the interests of carers through:

  • Research, development and consultation
  • Influence on national, regional and local policy
  • Partnerships with other national organisations
  • Information through our interactive websites, providing advice and access to support groups
