Vision Statement

All Parent Carers of children and young people aged 0-19 years in Gloucestershire will have the opportunity to participate in and be heard by service providers through the Gloucestershire Parent Carers Council (which is in development), the Parent Carer Participation Worker, the Parent Carer Forum and Parent Carer Representatives (Reps) from Carers Gloucestershire.

Participation

Parent participation is beneficial both for parents and professionals involved with children and families. Professionals need to know what they are doing well and where they could be doing things better. Parents can assist with the planning and development of services, providing evidence for this with their expert knowledge. In consultation with parents who are using services it is hoped that parent influence and input into service design will deliver better services for all children and families.

Increasing the number of parents participating will ensure:

· More parents are involved in the decision making process so that it becomes more representative

· Services reflect the influence of parents

· All Parent Carers are made welcome if they wish to participate

· Parents are empowered

If you are a Parent Carer of a child or young person and would like to have a say about
what services you receive and on any future developments, maybe you would like to
think of becoming involved with one of the following:

· One of the support groups in Gloucestershire

· Gloucestershire Parent Carers Council

· Carers Forum (please see our Forum section)

· Be sent information on forthcoming events and training that may be of interest to you and
comment on consultations.
